The apps upload on by default — upload is pre-configured, so your first capture is published without you setting anything up. Once published, a capture's raw measurement files can be downloaded by anyone with the link, and by default they include your network's name (SSID) and your public IP. (Your router's hardware address, the BSSID, is no longer collected — removed September 2026.)
You have two controls, and it's worth setting them before your first capture: turn auto-upload off in the app's Settings (except the shipped Windows build, which has no off switch yet — see Privacy & Data Handling for where each app stands), or leave it on and redact the identifying fields using the app's privacy setting (--privacy hash or --privacy omit on the command line). The command-line tool is the exception: it uploads only when you pass --upload.
Privacy & Data Handling explains exactly what each probe records and what each mode strips.
